Liberty Grandparents Day
11/22/11

Grandparents day

Liberty’s Second-Annual Grandparents Day is November 22, 2011.  This is a very popular and spectacular event that extends our school’s ongoing reverence and celebration of family.  As a parent-run charter school, Liberty believes grandparents have an honored place and a special role in the education and upbringing of all students.

Invitations for Grandparents Day were mailed out the week of September 19, 2011 to Liberty households and to grandparents who attended Grandparents-Day activities in 2010.   If any grandparents did not receive one, that’s not a problem.  We want all grandparents of Liberty students (grades K – 11) to participate.  Please regard this webpage as a cordial invitation to attend.

The RSVP deadline is Friday, October 21, 2011.  This is a very firm deadline due to seating, class scheduling with grandchildren’s classes and other special arrangements.  We deeply regret that RSVPs received after the deadline cannot be accepted.

The Schedule of Events for Liberty’s Grandparents Day entails two parts.  The first starts off in the morning with a light continental breakfast at the Liberty elementary school.  This first event is for the grandparents of students in grades K – 6.  Next, grandparents of students in grades 7 – 11 will convene for the second event in the afternoon at the Liberty high-school campus which is 1.5 miles away.

8:30 a.m.                     Arrive at Liberty Common Elementary School – 1725 Sharp Point Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80525.  This portion of the event is for grandparents of students in grades K – 6.  Light continental breakfast, juice, coffee will be served in the auditorium.  Students will be performing during this gathering period (Hint:  You don’t want to miss this.  The kids have been practicing for weeks and they’re simply adorable).

8:45 a.m.                     Welcome and greetings will be issued by Liberty’s Headmaster Russ Spicer and Elementary Principal Casey Churchill.  Also, brief remarks will be made by Mr. Ed Haynes, Chairman of the Liberty Grandparents Club.  Grandparents will visit students and participate in specially prepared classroom activities.

11:00 a.m.                   End of event at the elementary school.  Grandparents depart school.  Lunch is “on your own.”

12:30 p.m.                   Arrive at Liberty Common High School – 2745 Minnesota Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80525.  This portion of the event is for grandparents of students in grades 7 – 11.  The Liberty choir, band and orchestra will be performing during this gathering time (Hint:  You don’t want to miss any of this – these students are quite talented and most impressive).

1:00 p.m.                     Welcome and greetings will be issued by student leaders, Liberty’s Headmaster Russ Spicer and high-school principal Bob Schaffer.  Also, brief remarks will be made by Mr. Ed Haynes, Chairman of the Liberty Grandparents Club.  Grandparents will tour the school with students and participate in specially prepared classroom activities throughout the school.

3:15 p.m.                     End of event/End of school day.  Grandparents and students depart the high school.

Grandparents only please.  Grandparents Day is a special and exclusive day set aside for Liberty grandparents and students only.  Concern about overcrowding dictates that no other visitors will be permitted to participate in this event.  The school is open all other schooldays to parents and guardians who are otherwise always welcome to observe and participate in the educational process at both school campuses.

Volunteers and donors are still needed to help plan, produce and supply this year’s Grandparents Day.  If you can help, please CLICK HERE to contact Event Chair Amy Redstone.
